Packing a sewing machine


It's never a good sign when a box rattles upon arrival. Upon opening the box I found the machine with its cast iron handwheel snapped clean off of the shaft [additional pic here].

No offense intended to the shipper but this is about the worst packing job possible, only one notch better than slapping on a few stamps and dropping the machine in a mailbox naked. This picture really was the sum total of packing used to send a machine cross-country: two large sheets of crumpled craft paper in a single layer cardboard box. Just... wow.
