I plan to major in 6-3 with hopefully a double in 18. My experience has mainly been dealing with the overall security of systems so I'm looking to get more into the actual CS side of things. My first love though is cryptography, which is a mix of 6-3 and 18. My real goal is to create and implement an algorithm and system that achieves the goals of sending OTP's across the internet. This would allow for deniability inside cryptosystems, and allow in a greater context to keep people secure. While I was sure I did not want to join a fraternity before I came here, however, ZBT changedthat, it made me realize what a great place they could be. Being a part of ZBT really has made MIT a better place, it has really helped me in the first few rough weeks of readjusting to a new environment.

Hi! I'm a sophomore from Richmond, Virginia and pledge #3. The MIT experience has been very exciting so far and I'm really enjoying Boston. I've declared Course 2A, MechE with a concentration, although I’m still relatively undecided about which concentration I’d like to pursue. I like playing a wide range of sports and frequently participate in intramurals. It's great to be a Zebe!

Good day, I'm Yifan Cao, the Beta Delta class's number eight! I began my travels in China, but they've taken me to the often unfairly maligned suburbs of Connecticut (yes, in a cul-de-sac). I'm considering both Math and Economics as my majors, but have found that oddly enough, my favorite classes are in the Humanities, especially writing and literature. I enjoy both watching and playing sports, especially soccer and baseball, and take great pride in wearing the number of Yaz and Steven Gerrard, Mr. Liverpool.
Still, there's almost nothing that is interesting that I wouldn't enjoy. I guess that makes me easily drawn to different things like a bear is to honey.
And the simpler the honey, typically, the longer the bear will stay. I guess that's why I came to ZBT. So please, bring out some honey because I sure would love to talk to you.

Born in the suburban wilds of NJ, I spend most of time when I'm not psetting rocking out in the Chorallaries or in MITSO (which is entirely possible). You may find me wandering the halls of MIT beatboxing, or singing whatever song has come to mind. You may also see me hauling my Double Bass. (PLEASE HELP ME WITH DOORS) If not doing fun things, I'll likely be psetting in some random corner of campus (possibly the basement of building 1...) where I'm learning the rare (at least in this house) art of environmental engineering. I hope to one day use this art to save the world be cleaning up large, messy, and toxic messes. Maybe. If you want to find me the house, I may be in PLC, or in commons. I might also be hiding in a hole in space time.

Hi, my name is Kevin Fischer, pledge number 6, and I am a proud member of the beta delta class! I'm from Bay Village, Ohio, which is a little West of Cleveland, right on the lake. In high school I didn't really spend much time participating in my school's activities because they all conflicted with my classes - I took classes at local colleges senior year. However, I still had time to sit at principal oboist for two outside music groups (Contemporary Youth Orchestra and Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony), and associate principal oboist of another (Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra). Also, I have been playing piano for ten years and have been a semi-finalist in multiple youth international competitions (which explains the tails in my picture). Thus I try to stay involved with music at MIT. I was never particularly good at any sports except for racquet-ball, so I plan on playing IM badminton for ZBT and hope to start IM squash, or at least a ZBT squash club. Like all good nerds at MIT, I also videogame; my favourite game of all is Oblivion, hands down, right after nearly every Splinter Cell game ever released.
I am currently pursuing degrees in EECS and Physics and plan on eventually earning my doctorate and working for a national defense research lab. When I'm not studying or making music, I love to build stuff and work on projects. Right now a few of my friends and I are planning a musical tesla coil. I also spend a lot of time working under Martin Zwierlein in the Ultracold Quantum Gases Group (www.rle.mit.edu/uqg). For the last 8 months I have been helping setup an apparatus that will allow for the pairing of fermions of different species in a cold-atom environment. When I came to MIT I had absolutely no intention of joining a fraternity, but finding such an awesome group of guys at ZBT completely changed my mind!

Hi, I am Wes McD, and I was the pledge to get the amazin’ #10! That’s right…. Anyway, I am originally from College Station Texas (Gig ‘em, Aggies!) and live there with my two brothers, little sister, and my mom and dad (who are awesome). I am currently “planning” on a Course 2 major, but that could change. Eventually, I think I would concentrate in Robotics, and use that to develop economical robots for impoverished nations.
I love soccer, swimming, ultimate, ping-pong (really any sport), reading, bible studies, food, sleeping, more food, and more sleeping. In my spare time (what’s that?), I like to hold friendly discussions with friends about pretty much any thing. I hope to continue the legacy of amazing #10 through my time with ZBT!

Timothy "Tim" Peng is a hard-working yet fun sophomore currently registered as an electrical engineering major. His favourite activities include playing soccer, ice hockey, and Defense of the Ancients. If you are looking for him, you'll probably find him with the rest of his class doing something fun, in his room (FX Studios), or hanging out with some friends. Tim is proud to be a member of ZBT and hopes to continue serving as a role model to the community throughout his MIT community.

I’m Alex Speltz, brother number 7 from the beta delta class (DELTA Force!) I hail from St. Joseph, Missouri, which is right by Kansas City. I went to a math and science academy for the last 2 years of high school, where I lived on a college campus and took only college classes. In my traditional high school I debated and played tennis. In the second high school I started and led a robotics team, played Frisbee, football, and DOTA (Unwittingly practicing for my days as a Zebe) as well as doing math and science competitions. Now at MIT I play a variety of intramural sports for ZBT, and club Frisbee for MIT.
I plan on majoring in course 2 with a concentration in 6 and either work in the automotive industry or with robotics. Even though I’ve only been through a month of classes so far, I’ve figured out that MIT is a pretty rough place to transition to, and I’m glad I found ZBT, a place where I truly belong, with all my brothers!

Hi, I’m David Zhu, Beta Delta #11. I’m a sophomore majoring in Course 2A (Mechanical/Biomedical Engineering) and possibly Course 14 (Economics). I live in Rockville, Maryland, but went to high school in Wilton, Connecticut. As a spring-semester pledge, I’m currently the newest member of the house.
On campus, I’m involved in the Undergraduate Association, MIT’s student government, and serve as the Treasurer of the Class of 2012. I also founded the MIT Robotics Initiative, for which several ZBT brothers and I road-tripped to Hartford for a weekend (where we discovered my prodigious driving skills – or lack thereof).
I play violin in the MIT Symphony Orchestra, and also work for The Tech, where I am the Sports section editor. I’m also a columnist, which means you’ll often see my pieces extolling the domination of my fantasy football team or making predictions for the MLB playoffs. I also play just about every IM sport (favorites being tennis, baseball/softball, and football).
It’s great to be a Zebe!

Hey all, this is Dave Zou (not to be confused w/ Dave Zhu). As a physics major at MIT, I aspire to someday teach at a university level. In line with this goal, I have a passion for teaching and mentoring and spend most of my extra curricular time with MIT’s Leadership Training Institute, a student run leadership program for high school students. In my free time, I enjoy swing dancing, competing in IM sports, playing card games, and most of all talking to my brothers and friends. Also, I really dislike comma rules and have complete given up and figuring out the correct punctuation for that last sentence.

I am a Filipino American from San Francisco, CA with a declared major in VI-1. Although I originally came to MIT with no intention of joining a fraternity, I was very impressed with the Zebes I met my freshman year, and was almost instantly convinced that ZBT was the place for me. Although I came to MIT for the academics, I've taken the time to explore all the other opportunities it has to offer. I've learned how to juggle, participated in the hacking community, and discovered untapped potential. My passions are varied, ranging from fiddling with computers to trying to squat 600.

Hi, my name is Tsendai Chagwedera. My first name is pronounced as "Send-Eye", my last name is a bit more complicated. I'm half American and half Zimbabwean, and I grew up in Zimbabwe my whole life. My academic interests are mathematics and finance. I plan to either go into business after I graduate from MIT, or pursue graduate studies in financial economics or operations research. On the side, I enjoy watching movies, soccer and basketball, as well as reading novels.

Hi, my name is Isaac Joseph, and I hail from a small farm in the country in upstate New York (i.e., not the city). I enjoy running and alternative sports (sports that not many people spend time practicing, so I’m better in comparison). All that the overbearing course load has allowed me to participate in so far has been the Ultimate Frisbee team. Academically, I’m interested in Course 6-3 and 7, which translates to Bioinformatics. My other pastimes include the occasional videogame and internet-surfing spree. I’m glad that I finally made it to MIT.

Hi, I'm Mike Kling. I'm from a small town in Vermont called Essex, where I lived on a dirt road all through middle and high school. In my spare time I enjoy running and the occasional game of ultimate frisbee. Academically, I'm interested in courses 18 and 6-3, so most anything to do with math or programming. I always enjoy hanging out at the house, going out to grab food or talking with brothers. I'm looking forward to the rest of my time here.

I am a junior born and raised in New Jersey. I used to play the piano and saxophone, and I still enjoy drawing and painting. My favorite activity is going out to eat. I also like to travel, and my academic interest is in bioengineering and medically-related fields. As a kid, I played a lot with Legos. Those who know me would say that I am a fairly random person – I like to try out things that I have not done before. On my to-do list is: take scuba lessons, go skydiving, blow glass in the MIT glass lab, learn breakdancing, join a jazz band, and be the first person to jump through a wormhole.

Hi, I'm Brandon, from the class of 2011. I'm from a suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota, but enjoy a wide variety of sports affiliations outside my state. Go Cardinals! Since coming to MIT, I've decided on double-majoring in 3 and 17, Materials Science and Political Science. I'm a member of Army ROTC; as a result, I can often be found waking up earlier than anyone else in the house (with the possible exception of our RA, Bryan). During my spare time, I enjoy playing as many of the numerous IM sports in which ZBT participates.

Hi, my name is Kevin Marengo, number 5, and I am a proud member of the beta gamma class. I'm from Tinton Falls, New Jersey, which is in Monmouth County and very near to the Jersey shore and Fort Monmouth. In high school I was a captain of both the math and science teams (a shocker for an MIT student, I know) as well as our school's chapter of SADD. I played two sports, golf and bowling, and I was the captain of our varsity bowling team my senior year. I also did Tae Kwon Do throughout high school. I enjoy playing sports of all sorts though, including football, baseball, hockey, frisbee, etc. hence I joined basically all of the ZBT intramural teams. I am a videogamer as well and I play first-person shooters mostly, especially Modern Warfare, Shadowrun, Halo, Left 4 Dead, etc.
Currently I am Course 6-2 EECS, but I may end up switching to 6-1 EE before I graduate. I have taken some courses in high school and in the MITES summer program on electronics and robotics, so I was originally thinking of taking some course 2 classes and maybe minor in that or course 14 or 15. My life goal is to make a lasting impact on the world somehow through my work, which I had originally planned to be in robotics by constructing robots that can save human lives or can make the lives of human beings easier. Although I still enjoy robotics, it is more of a hobby than what I plan to do in the future as a career. Now I am thinking more along the lines of doing Signals Analysis, maybe go into intelligence or cybersecurity.
While at ZBT I have grown as a brother and a person. I have taken on responsibility through positions in the house like Secretary and Brotherhood Development Director while growing closer to all these men I call my brothers.
I cannot imagine how different my life would be had I not joined ZBT, but I know that the best times I've had here at MIT have been doing things with my brothers at ZBT.
Before I came to MIT I wasn't sure if fraternities were right for me, but ever since I got to ZBT my freshman year, I spent the majority of my time here studying and just hanging out with the other brothers. Two years later I still love being here at ZBT with all of these guys I really feel are my brothers. I love being at MIT despite the enormous workload and being a part of ZBT just makes it that much better.

I'm a junior majoring in the ever-popular Course 17. But don't worry, I'm a science geek at heart, with an unhealthy obsession towards anything space or energy related. Away from school I enjoy spending time outdoors, travelling (pic is recent trip to Costa Rica), or bagpiping in small Pennsylvania parades with my Nittany Highland Pipe Band. Growing up on a farm in central Pennsylvania, I never expected to live in a big city. Thankfully, I found ZBT, which is located far enough from the sounds but close enough to the sights of the city.

Hey there, I'm a Junior from Trumbull, a town in Southwestern Connecticut, and I don't mess around. Academically, I come from an intense background including three USAMO qualifications, a first place in the GE CS competition, and a top 150 performance nationwide on the Putnam. These days I am interested in theoretical physics, differential geometry and the early universe among other things. Surprisingly, I identify more with the outdoors than the classroom. I spend my summers far from academia in the Adirondack High Peak region where I have developed enthusiasm for chopping wood, canoeing, fishing, wilderness first aid, hiking, and life-guarding. While at school, you can find me running, playing sports, with my Christian fellowship on campus, or having a blast hanging out with my bro's here at ZBT!

After a long week of psets, exams, and life in general, I enjoy getting off campus and exploring Boston and Cambridge. I also work on the MIT Ambulance spending some of my "free time" responding to emergencies within the MIT community. I play IM Hockey, and football, as well as guitar and violin. I am taking Mechanical Engineering (Course 2A) and hoping to go to med school someday. You can often find me zipping around the country on my motorcycle (a very pretty Kawasaki Z750). I've put on about 25000km in the last year, and only received 1 speeding ticket (and 3 Cambridge parking tickets). As a Canadian living in America, I often find people laughing at how I say "about." But, what can I do aboot it, eh?

I'm a 6-3 major from Mobile, AL. I'm a bit older than the average f since I took two years off before coming to college. I spent those two years volunteering with my church in different parts of the country. I love music; I've been playing the violin for most of my life. I'm not currently in any instrumental groups on campus, but I like to play in my free time. I also love to sing, so I'm currently in an a cappella group called MIT Resonance. In my free time enjoy playing sports, watching movies, and hanging out with friends.

Hey everyone, my name is Daniel Zheng I come from the great state of Minnesota. The most northern state in the continental US has great fishing, great parks, and great people. Here at MIT, I am one of the many computer science majors. What sets me apart is that I am really fascinated by Artificial Intelligence and Algorithms, but also really passionate about history. My favorite class so far, involved examining the changes in the US constitution over the past 200 years. When I am not tooling, you can find me staying active by playing all sorts of sports or going running. I also loving playing all manners of cards and board games.

I am a senior studying Math (18) and Economics (14). I love sports whether I'm good at them or not, and play on just about every IM team ZBT fields. I also play the clarinet in the MIT Chamber Music Society and take lessons through MIT's Emerson Music Scholarship. My fondest memories of college were times spent with brothers such as staying up late doing psets (I have never stayed up all-night for work though), staying up all night playing video games, causing mischief around the house, going on an epic summer camping trip in New Hampshire during which I fell off a small cliff and walked away with only scrapes on my arms and a gash on my chin.

I am currently interested in circuits, electronics, and robotics. I am currently in the 6A program, which means that I will spend a fifth year after I graduate to obtain a master's in engineering degree. The 6A program in particular involves working in industry, in which I am to write my master's thesis on a topic that deals with this work. This summer, I will be working at Lincoln Laboratory as the first summer of my involvement in the 6A program. I will be designing an optimized optical camera network as a payload for unmanned air vehicles to use for enhanced reconnaissance. For fun, I like to play the piano. I have been playing classical music for years, but now, I like to improvise or learn video game songs. And of course, I play video games. I am also trying to pick up random sports such as tennis, hockey, ping-pong, etc. while at MIT.

Hi all, I'm David Hutchings, or "Hutch," from Newfoundland Canada. I originally came to MIT to study Aeronautical Engineering (16), but during freshmen year I decided to change over to Economics, and later added Math. At MIT I'm involved with the Interfraternity Council (IFC), the EM Baker Foundation, the Undergraduate Association (UA) Nominations Committee and have played trumpet in a couple of different musical groups on campus. When I'm not overly busy with work I play on the ZBT Intramural Hockey and Unihoc teams, and when the opportunity presents itself (mainly when I'm home) I enjoy skiing, hiking, fishing and other outdoor pursuits. I never planned on joining a fraternity when I first came to MIT, but since joining my best memories and experiences at MIT have come through ZBT, be it at our house or with brothers elsewhere; and is a decision I definitely do not regret.
Twice winner of an excellence in chapter leadership award from ZBT national and 2009 Chapter President of the Year

Hi, I'm David! I'm a Physics major, but I've taken a number of math and electronics classes as well. I've also performed in a number of MIT's musical groups, including Wind Ensemble, Concert Choir, and Chamber Music Society. During my time at ZBT, I've served as house, workweek, and alumni chair, among other things. I enjoy working on random projects in our "War Room" with other Zebes, cooking, and playing on ZBT's intramural soccer teams.

Coming to MIT I thought it might be a little difficult to balance my academics with, well, anything. I was very pleasantly surprised when I found out this was not the case at all. Moreover, I hadn't even imagined that I could find a place like ZBT where so many people shared a similar set of passions in life as I did. But here I am, loving every second of it.
Having joined the fraternity in my second semester here, I got a good taste of what going through MIT alone would be like. After hanging out at ZBT every now and then, I quickly realized the sense of community and brotherhood I was missing out on. As such, I knew my decision was to join well before I received my bid in the spring. Even on day 1 of being a zebe I could feel the difference. I already felt that my brothers had my back. Without them, I'd still be an introverted, slightly awkward kid locked up in my room doing math not knowing how to prepare for jobs and internships struggling to figure things out that they could answer immediately.
In any case, I'm a firm follower of the Work Hard, Play Hard principle. My weeks are, of course, filled with psets from my classes. More interestingly, though, I jump at the chance to do interesting work outside of the classroom as well. While at MIT, I've taken on a multitude of other jobs including software development for a small, fast-paced startup, bioinformatics research at MGH, and being a teaching assistant for many of the intro level EECS classes here at MIT. Further, you can also find me working hard for ZBT. I've had my hand in numerous areas of the house with such positions as social chair, academic chair, athletics chair, and currently webmaster.
So that's the "Work Hard" part of my life, how about the "Play Hard"? For one, I have to be active. Every day you'll find me either running, lifting or playing a sport for at least an hour. Since coming to MIT I've picked up soccer and ran the Boston Marathon. Additionally, despite my busy schedule I've managed to maintain a much better social life than what I had in high school. On my weekends I can be found doing any of a variety of things ranging from exploring new restaurants with friends to hanging out at ZBT for one of our fine social events. To date, I've yet to have a boring weekend at ZBT.

Hey, my name is Rajeev, and I'm a senior majoring in electrical engineering and computer science with a minor in music. I have also been known to go by the aliases "Jeev", "Jeeves", and "Jeev-Unit", among many others. Aside from classes, I'm a teaching assistant for 6.042 and I sing in the MIT Concert Choir. In my free time, I enjoy playing basketball, tennis, ping-pong, badminton, and piano. I also like watching all kinds of TV shows and solving crossword puzzles.

Wow, I am a Senior now. MIT has been a blast so far and I am looking forward to at least one more year (possibly grad school not super-senior-dom). ZBT has been fun and supportive along the way, and I am certainly glad I joined. I hail from the great state of Idaho, where we not only have potatoes, but delicious huckleberries (yes they are real). I am a fan of science fiction, particularly Star Wars, and enjoy trying new things (particularly new foods mmmmm). I have been involved with the student juggling club for a few years and am always willing to learn a new trick or teach someone else what I know. I like video games and hanging out with friends. I had a hamster, but it died, so I will probably get another this year! I also have a lot of fun doing IMs like foosball, soccer and bowling. My main complaint about MIT is that there is never enough time to do everything you want.

Hello! My name is Stephen Tsai and I'm a senior majoring in Political Science. I spent this past summer working as a research assistant for Professor Gabriel Lenz studying peak-end effects in political voting behavior. The idea is that when people are deciding whether or not to re-elect a president, they evaluate the economy, but focus mainly on the performance of the economy in the past year instead of the past four years. After working for Professor Lenz, I'm excited to write my thesis on a political psychology topic - the effects of race, gender, and attractiveness on evaluation of political candidates. This past summer, I also worked as a Residential Assistant at CTY Lancaster.
There were definitely plenty of days when I thought I'd never make it through MIT, but here I am, alive and (mostly) well, and needing to pass 7.012 to graduate. In my upcoming senior year, I'm looking forward to exploring more of the many exciting events that the greater Boston area has to offer, as well as planning ZBT's Philanthropy events "Battle of the Bands" (CPW) and "Get on the Ball".

I'm Jeff Xing, MIT class of 2010. I joined ZBT knowing that I would be spending 4 years with some awesome people and what I've come to learn instead was to appreciate the diverse family I call "my brothers." And like any other family, there's the roller coaster thrills of learning together, bickering together, and playing together. We set our own agenda, manage our own financial budget, and take care of all the house-hold cleaning, chores, and improvements. That's not to say that I haven't had my fair share of fun between going on fall and winter retreats, socializing at parties, playing for the ZBT sports team, dressing up for classy formals, and just plain hanging out with my fellow 'Zebes'. The only difference about our family is that it's about 50 people large and all male so as you can imagine, I've found it to be an exciting experience.
But besides the life I have at "home", I've stumbled upon a rather eclectic bunch of activities on campus as well. I'm an active teacher for MIT's Educational Services Program, a volunteer student educational program for local high school and middle school students. I'm a risk management consultant for the Inter-fraternity Council as well as a math Teaching Assistant for Experimental Studies Group. I also do intramural sports in air pistol, billiards, table tennis, badmington, and sailing. You might have heard that MIT's a busy place with the academic work alone, but all work and no play is hardly a satisfying undergraduate experience. Despite the long hours of studying, I still manage to squeeze in some time for video games, cooking meals, making runs to China Town, and of course, simply lounging around our house at 58 Manchester Rd.

I am Richard, a senior born and raised in San Francisco, CA. I am active on the MIT and Wellesley campuses as the director of the MIT/Wellesley Toons, a cross campus a cappella group. When not singing with the toons, you can find me playing basketball with brothers at the local basketball court, debating with brothers about investment strategies, or recording music in the portable booth I've built in my room, which is currently in 8-Bit. Feel free to check it out.

I am currently about to begin my senior year at MIT as part of the class of 2010. On campus, I am a member of Eta Kappa Nu, the Course 6 honor society, and Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society. I am also a member of the MIT Concert Choir and have previously played viola in the MIT Symphony Orchestra. Besides music, some other hobbies of mine include tennis, table tennis, card games, puzzle hunts, and crosswords.
At ZBT, I have held several officer positions, including academic chair and philanthropy chair. As a senior, I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do after this year, but some of the options that I'm considering are going to work at a hedge fund and applying to Ph.D programs. Regardless of what I ultimately choose, I look forward to having a great year with the rest of my brothers at ZBT.

I'm in the class of 2010, studying theoretical math and computer science. I'm the Philanthropy Chair at ZBT, setting up Get on the Ball, a charity event in which brothers roll a huge rubber ball around campus, collecting signatures, which are then matched in money by companies. I play Ultimate Frisbee with the club team at MIT and in my spare time, I enjoy playing card games, such as Bridge or 80. I also like playing video games, bughouse, and badminton. I'm a fanatic about college football, and even though my hometown university, Texas A&M, probably won't be winning the national championship anytime soon, you can always find me rooting for them!

Hello, your name is Sam, though your closest friends call you "Creeping Death." You've recently graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with degrees in Civil Engineering and History. Due to the failing economy, however, you've decided to pursue a career as a part-time bar singer/scat artist. Your role models include Hannibal, Trogdor, and bad weather. In your spare time, you enjoy going to the driving range, playing Mario Kart 64 (the old school is the good school), and mixing drinks. Sometimes you get enthusiastic and invent words in an attempt to describe the illusion that surrounds you(pl.). If I'm looking for you, I'll likely find you poisoning the watering hole, writing Latin poetry, or scaling the Hancock Tower. Although you have a large and well-muscled stray cat, this is but a facade for your dorky yet cute interior.

I'm an alumnus living in the house. I recently graduated from MIT with a S.B. in Chemical Engineering, and am now currently teaching high school physics at Excel High School in South Boston. After spending a summer working in a slum on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt, I became very passionate about the developing world, especially poverty alleviation and racial equality. Teach for America was very much aligned with that emphasis, so I decided to volunteer two years of my time after graduation teaching in urban settings. Besides my studies, I am very active in the church, and used to attend MIT's Asian Christian Fellowship. I am also one of ZBT's three Medlinks, or medical liaison officers in charge of distributing care to sick students. During my free time, I enjoy playing guitar, watching movies, cooking, and talking with people. I also enjoy playing football, basketball, and table tennis.
