Welcome to ZBT! We are located in Brookline, a tree-lined residential area of Boston. Brothers can walk, bike, drive, or ride our 15-passenger van to MIT’s campus. The house is within five minutes of basketball and tennis courts, several public parks, numerous restaurants, and a 24-hour supermarket. Our proximity to Boston University, Fenway Park, and Coolidge Corner guarantees that there is always something fun to do. You can view an interactive map of Brookline HERE, or view a tour of our house below.

First Floor

  • Commons
  • Mail Room
  • Chapter Room
  • Dinings
  • Kitchen

Commons

This is where people hang out; a common area, if you will. Commons is also used for throwing some of our social events, including our very well attended semi-annual soirée.

Mail Room

As the name suggests, the Mail Room is indeed the place where every brother's mail is stored. Every brother of ZBT gets their own mailbox and phone line. The Mail Room is also a convenient place to store your bike, as seen here.

Chapter Room

Here at ZBT, academics are one of our priorities. Our Chapter Room, reserved for quiet study, has a library containing textbooks, course “bibles,” and various works of literature.

Dinings

Five nights a week, we enjoy dinners prepared by our personal chef Karen in our Dining Room.

Kitchen

The Kitchen is open for anyone to use. We keep a stock of hot dogs, hamburgers, meats, cheeses, snacks, cereal, milk, and juice for everyone to enjoy whenever they please.

Basement

  • Party Room
  • Study Room
  • Game Room
  • TV Room
  • Cluster

Party Room

As you may have guessed, the Party Room is where ZBT throws its parties. In addition, we also have a ping-pong table, a (expensive) keyboard, a stage (with a DJ booth), and a bar.

Study Room

This room has since been converted to a fully functional study room. Not pictured here are the new tables, lamps, and chairs.

Game Room

With yet another uninspired name, but a really cool room unto itself, the Game Room is aptly named. It contains a pool table, a foosball table, an air hockey table, a pinball machine, and a soda machine which dispenses soda for 40 cents a can. You'll often find brothers in here taking a break from studying.

TV Room

With stadium seating, digital surround sound, and a 65” widescreen HDTV, there's not a bad seat in the house; or at least in the TV Room. We have digital cable with a DVR setup, in addition to many different game consoles owned by brothers in the house. The TV Room is also used to hang composites that are slightly older.

Athena Cluster

Our Athena Cluster is where you'll find many brothers working on problem sets. The cluster currently contains four (Linux) Athena machines, three WinAthena machines, and a house server with almost two terabytes of space used for storing files for the house or classes brothers have taken, among other things the brotherhood has a need for.

First Floor Residences

  • Brewery
  • Red Room
  • Ponderosa
  • President's

Brewery

Brewery is the double closest to the kitchen, good for easy access to foodstuffs. The origin of the name comes from the fact that some time ago the room was home to a glass carboy in which the room's residents brewed different kinds of beer.

Red Room

Red Room’s soothing colored walls make the room’s name pretty self-explanatory.

Ponderosa

An actor from the TV show Bonanza had a son who was a brother. The actor/father had also made a large donation to the house, so the house decided to name the room in his honor, as the TV show Ponderosa is the prequel to Bonanza. Also, there used to be a mural of a ranch, much like the Ponderosa Ranch (in Colorado, and Bonanza), which added incentive for the name.

President's

President’s is usually the only single in the house and also the only room with it's own private phone line and private bathroom.

Second Floor Residences

  • Castle
  • Sierra
  • Side 1
  • Side 2
  • Broadway
  • FX
  • PLC
  • 8-bit
  • Picasso
  • Arctic
  • 69
  • L-Shape
  • 200 Comm Ave
  • Reactor

Castle

Castle is a sought after room to the left of the stairs. It was once called Stairway Left, but these days we call it Castle. Ask a brother why!

Sierra

Sierra is the smallest double in the house. For this reason, during most semesters, it gets turned into a single.

Side 1

Side 1 is one of the only doubles that doesn't feature lofted beds. The name comes from the mural on the doors, which features the first side from the album "Dark Side of the Moon."

Side 2

Side 2 is a nice double right next to Side 1. As you can see from the door, it features the second side from the "Dark Side of the Moon" album.

Broadway

The two current residents of this room lived and worked in New York City this past summer. Their employer, Broadway Technology (cool place) was also located on Broadway, and so they decided to rename the room. The transition is a work in progress, but expect to see changes this year that reflect the Broadway theme.

FX Studio

FX Studio got its name when a brother who had some professional-level sound mixing equipment used up so much electricity the room needed to get rewired to steal electricity from neighboring rooms. Today, the “On Air” sign still hangs over the room’s front door.

PLC

The sign above the door of PLC says, you guessed it, Parking Lot C. A room with a relatively uninspired name, but definitely a good room with lots of space and comfortable beds. This was the freshman room for a long time.

8-bit Theatre

The paintings on the right-hand wall and the front door are from the webcomic 8-Bit Theatre, which gives this room its name. The murals are drawn in the classic 8-Bit NES style.

Picasso

On the right-hand wall of Picasso is a mural of Don Quixote by Pablo Picasso. Although the mural is barely visible now, a painting still hangs on a frame in the back of the room.

Arctic

Arctic usually houses 3 brothers, and it is located in the front-left corner of the second floor. It's called Arctic because its 5 large windows cause it to get really cold in the winter. In recent years, the insulation around the windows has been vastly improved, but it's still probably the coldest room in the house.

69

69 is a triple consisting of two separate rooms. The front room, called the antechamber, is a common area for hanging out, while the back room houses the desks and the beds.

L-Shape

L-Shape is a pretty self-explanatory name for this room, which is built in the shape of an L. One of the main distinguishing features of this room is a swing that hangs from the ceiling.

200 Comm. Ave.

200 Comm. Ave. has one of the more popular stories out of all of our rooms, but the story is long and much better when told verbally. Ask a brother to tell you!

Reactor

Reactor is often the warmest room in the house because it is located directly above the kitchen. On the front door of the room hangs an alarm light and a radioactive sign, which were props from the movie The Hunt for Red October.
