Neville tells Jean in the Golden Circle that he doesn't want his identity nosed about in the case that some of his enemies might decide to use the shadow against him.
As Cailin walks towards the gym to work on the mage's true name, he steps through a rift and finds himself on the slope of a snowy mountain near a hut.
Cailin wanders around for a while, finds, scares, nabs, and interrogates a Yeti. He opens two gates, both are redirected. The duct-taped floating mage is sent through the first gate and is impailed by two pincers, and a empty cardboard box is sent through the second gate and combusts.
Cailin trumps Tate and chats mentally while muttering gibberish out loud. Cailin goes through the contact along with his pet mage.
They chat.
Tate takes the job as House Second, and is then told that Princess Chandra's house is under attack, and that Grandmother is angry. Tate considers
Tate mentions a dark aura that is trying to eat Cailin, but the circlet is defeating the attacks. It is determined that the circlet has Ferethyn's signature on it.
Tate asks Jean for advice and information. Jean tells the Dancers Guild about it. Cailin is advises to tell the etiquette guild that no formal challenge was issued and that whatever House is behind it should lose their status. Jean requests an appointment with a member of the etiquette guild.
"This is a serious matter. Can you bring me to him with all speed?"
"How big of a fish can you fit in?"
The etiquette guild member is fished to Cailin. He pulls out a stick. On the side of the stick is inscribed, in thari, "Stop that". He aims the stick at the thing attacking Cailin and pushes a button on it. The attack on Cailin stops momentarily, the etiquette guild member grabs it by the scuff of its neck and pours into the fish. Jean dumps the guy somewhere near Etiquette Guild HQ.
Tate and Cailin discuss recruiting people into House Moonlight. They decide to grab Random when he is in an altered state.
Cassandra and Lord Talos are done. Cassandra goes to Princess Chandra's office. There are twenty or so darts, stacked point to fletching, in the center of a target on the back of the door. Cassandra hands over the folder for the contract. Princess Chandra writes, "transferred by order of the guildmaster to Zorro and company."
Princess Chandra does something to drop the trump blocks. Cassandra exits Princess Chandra's office to where she left Lord Talos.
Four gentlemen in Sith regimentals come up to Cassandra and ask for her attention. She tells them to bide for a moment.
Cassandra trumps Random. They chat briefly, then Cassandra passes Lord Talos through to Random.
Cassandra has Random pull Cailin into the contact. One of Cassandra's bodyguard pull Cailin's bodyguards out of a small pouch. The guards are scolded and passed through the contact. The gate in the gym is discussed, and they decide to tell Princess Chandra. Cailin trumps back to the Assassins' Guild along with his bodyguards and the
Cassandra turns back to the Sith in the hallway. "You had a question?"
They tell her that the section from which she gained her rank was destroyed. One person says that he is the brother of the person who trained her, and he claims it as his right. This other person says that the section is his by right as the only other student from that segment to be accepted into the main body. The third person claims that it was Cassandra's right, and the fourth is there to find out how she will decide.
Cassandra decides that in three hours they will hold a battle to decide who will take the section. They inform her that they would have done so, but are forbidden as ranking guild members from fighting each other.
The fourth guy says that they've been debating this for four weeks. Finally, she tells them to come back in two hours and she will have a decision for them.

Cassandra goes to her rooms, and decides to use Darhyse as a testing partner for the applicants.
Cailin receives permission to enter Princess Chandra's office and does so.
"... a funny thing thing happened on the way to the gym."
Cailin tells Princess Chandra about the rift that he fell through.
Princess Chandra is annoyed at the breach in her defenses and his tardiness in informing her.
"I have one comment for you. Your blood is telling."
Cailin hangs his head.
Princess Chandra adds another dart to the board, then throws four darts around the room. Cailin fails to notice his bodyguards perish messily.
Cailin tells Princess Chandra about the difficulties in returning, and about the attack on him that was blocked by the circlet. She is thrilled with the idea of getting Random into her House.
They leave the office to find the gate and meet Cassandra, who has just dismissed the Sith.
"We are going to find a gate in the gym."
The three of them head off towards the gym.
Cailin demonstrates where he found the gate, but no gate is noticed. Cassandra is standing next to Princess Chandra. The fourth Sith is wandering around and disappears. Princess Chandra whirls and doesn't see anything. Cassandra doesn't see anything. Cailin steps through the gate a foot away from the location where the Sith disappeared.
Cailin can see why the Sith didn't step back -- there is a slide heading down the mountain. Cailin tries to open a magical gate back to the gym, and finds the destination blocked.
Cailin searches for attacks and spots none, but sees a group of yeti clustered around a human and the green bowl. The human eats from the bowl, a yeti picks him up, shakes, and the human turns into a yeti and runs off. The yeti appear overjoyed.
A minute or two later another assassin steps through on more solid ground. He chats with Cailin for a bit, then leads him back through the rift to the gym. They still can't see the rift.
Cailin starts working on transforming the mage into the first brick of his house, and is told to use the practice room.
Princess Chandra turns towards the fourth Sith. "You. Seven staff, fifteen support. I want a report on my desk by morning. Feel free to mark the floor as you wish."
The group walks towards the practice room. Cailin tells Princess Chandra that he is still looking for the potion. Cassandra tells Princess Chandra that she will be ready to meet the hunter-seeker team in two hours.
Two hours later, Darkstar pulls her and the team through. Darkstar looks worried.
