Cailin, Laetatio, Kieron, Darkstar, undead Cailin, and the leaf bug-yeti have Trump-gated to Dimover. The moebius strip spell fails, and the leaf bug starts staggering around the blasted, depressed, desert.
People chat. Kieron notices that the shadow is a closed loop. Darkstar and Tate discuss trump and work. People go through another trump gate and talk to a plant.
Cailin and the bug talk about shapeshifting. Cailin asks his son to sing something soothing. Tate falls asleep and lands on the plant. Darkstar is not visible. The bug turns back into a bug.
Cailin and the bug discuss Chaos and Reality. Reality is described as a barbell, with Amber at one end and House Cara at the other.
After a while, Cailin sees the Amber ball form whiskers and ears, decides that Lord Snarsht wants his presence, and the group trumps to Amber, minus Darkstar.
Lord Snarsht has emerged from the garden and looks around. Jean sends a saucer down and chats with the cat about the stairs in the wall. Snarsht briefly rubs up against the shards of Osric's Fringe-crowbar.
Cailin et. al. emerge from a trump gate near the garden. Undead Cailin and Cailin talk about fear.
Jean changes the subject. "Snarsht... is this a good time to talk to you about fudgesicles?"
Snarsht is laughing. Cailin and company notice.
Jean continues, "Apparently, they can't tell the difference between somebody else and me."
Snarsht has returned to grooming his whiskers, with a very contented look on his face.
Jean tries again, "If there was any way in which you could tinker with their calibration so that I didn't get caught in the aftermath..."
Cailin and company approach Snarsht. Snarsht looks at the bug speculatively. Kieron walks over and starts petting Snarsht. Cailin looks briefly worried. Snarsht is lapping up the attention.
Cailin - "Is there a plan here?"
Snarsht opens an eye for long enough to look at the stairs in the wall.
Cailin whines about the unfairness of life.
Tate trumps Darkstar, wakes him, and pulls him through.
Darkstar stretches and yawns.
Removal of the stairs is discussed. Cailin says that they can't just pull the stairs out.
Darkstar walks over to the wall, shifting into a massive, multi-armed creature as he goes, braces himself, and pulls repeatedly. The stairs fail to budge.
Darkstar walks back over. "I see what you mean."
Jean points out the shards of Osric's Fringe-lance. Cailin scoops them up.
Jean brings out a host of Hamster Amberites and has them push on the stairs. Hamster Llewella hears the bug talk about pulling legs off hamsters, climbs Cailin, and pets the bug comfortingly, saying that it must have been traumatized as a child. The bug turns into a yeti, but doesn't go anywhere. Hamster Llewella keeps petting, but adjusts her pattern to compensate for the new shape. Snarsht grins at the bug. Cailin feels a squiggly on his shoulder, looks over, and notices that the bug is now a white hamster.
Cailin receives the impression that Snarsht's presence is preventing snow from falling - wet fur would be no good. Cailin starts working on the stairs, performing a major unweaving.
The bug notices a garden gnome approaching, panics, and tenses up. Hamster Llewella hops off Cailin's shoulder, tears the stone gnome into shreds, climbs back onto Cailin's shoulder, and starts working on the bug again.
Jean tells Darkstar that Ingold is bleeding in the center of his Pattern, and that his handkerchief will be full soon. Jean asks if Darkstar could get him some wood glue. Darkstar says that they need someone who has walked Ingold's Pattern -- that would be Cassandra, Janus, or Gil.
Darkstar trumps Janus, and pulls him through. Janus is in what one would call modern camouflage. Jean tells Janus about Ingold's situation, and suggests using duct tape or wood glue. Janus borrows a trump of Gil from Darkstar, trumps her, and pulls her through. Gil is dressed as Cassandra normally dresses, and she isn't battered.
Cailin, Cailin, and Darkstar go off into shadow. Cailin does magic, undead Cailin does bibliomancy, and Darkstar insulates with Trump. Boom. They try again. Around take eight, they can hold it near each other without major problems, and by take twenty-seven they can hold similar scale powers near one another without an explosion and are working on having the two influence each other.
Tate contacts Jean's mind, gets a glazed look on his face, a small thread of drool comes out of his mouth, and he wanders off to stare at the water for a while. He returns twenty minutes later, and claims to have gotten the image. "Next time, close a few more of your eyes."
Tate tries to draw, but his hand shakes. He gives up and pulls out a bleached white skin, an inkwell, and a pen. Tate starts carefully grinding the brush, and Jean can see a sense of calm surrounding him. The image starts taking form in just a few strokes, but Jean can tell that it has the impression of Ingold's Pattern.
Tate passes over the trump, then returns to his seat. Janus is looking at the trump with an impressed look on his face. Gil is nonplussed. Tate finishes the ceremony, cleaning his brushes and packing everything up, then remains seated with a blissful smile on his face.
Janus and Gil trump to Ingold's Pattern. Janus asks Jean if he could transport a number of items to them. "If I can find them, and they can fit in a fish." Janus turns over a shopping list. Jean goes shopping at a high-tech shadow and fishes items back to Janus.
Gil strips down to fairly bare, leaves her stuff on a pile next to the Pattern, wraps a few items in a bag, straps it into the small of her back, and sprints off towards the start of the Pattern.
She reaches the center a couple of hours later and trumps Janus, who takes the rest of the stuff and steps through the contact.
The poem that Kieron is reading to Snarsht is very good.
Hamster Llewella leads the hamster-shaped bug off to a hamster bed.
Jean plays bridge with the hamsters.
Pattern Suhuy is taken completely by surprise and is discussing the theoretical ramifications of why he wasn't replaced, too.
Savior of Chaos suggests that names might stick to roles, and that Pattern Suhuy was never the Logrus Master.
Shiryu says that names stick to roles. He makes a passing reference that it is possible to give up a name by giving up a role.
Melk expresses surprise and interest.
There is the equivalent of an interrupt set from the Logrus master who is training the whelps saying that he needs assistance.
Melk hands Suhuy a list of common things that Melk has seen Suhuy been responsible for. One of the surprising items on the list was "Culling the ends of the bell curve", especially the lower end, but occasionally the higher end.
One of Suhuy's tasks is regulating Logrus duels. They happen very rarely -- it is difficult to convince the Logrus to attack itself.
The meeting ends.
Suhuy receives a tendril from the Logrus master who is training the whelps saying that he needs assistance.
Suhuy goes to check.
One of the students is showing signs of an already existing Logrus insanity. It doesn't seem to be anyone that Ilk recognizes. He checks for a Logrus signature - he's not certain if there is one there.
The teacher is talking with Suhuy while not letting on that he's in the room. Something deep inside the student seems to respond to the Logrus at a very quiet level. Suhuy experiments. Something deep within the student stirs again. It tastes wrong, perhaps a bit hostile. Vague memories, something about a fungus or a different reality. Possibly the hostile Logrus from another reality?
Suhuy communes with the Logrus and asks for advice.
After some internal debate, Suhuy decides to go mention to Snarsht that he has found someone who may have Norton-style multiple internal personalities and power sets, and thought that he might find that of interest.
Suhuy goes to Amber.
