"Vlad" is using Osric's army as movers to reorganize and clean House Cara. Ilk prime is just finishing his conversation with Shiryu. Pattern Suhuy is trying to determine why his apprentice cannot enter the influence of his Pattern, and Suhuy-Ilk is in Suhuy's ways, investigating and looking for the real Suhuy.
Osric and Cara discuss the Gwen statues, conduits, and interactions between Pattern and Chaosians.
Princess Chandra asks Cassandra if she feels up to taking on the Poisoners' Guild. Cassandra accepts, with the reservation that she still needs to continue her training. Princess Chandra says that she will then have to remain at her apprentice's side to continue her training.
The ranking of Houses is discussed. Jean checks to see if his House is under political attack, and notices several attacks. He tries to chat with people in the Council chambers. Most of those who see him ignore him; those who met him on Grand Tour flee. Jean discovers that two attacks are by coalitions of minor houses and that one of the attacks is supposedly by a coalition of Cara, Jesby, and Darbin. Jean asks Ilk about the attack, and Ilk wanders around reality looking for the origin and failing - the only interesting point in the search is Cathryne, who is barricaded in a room in Rebma that is warded by magic, Logrus, and Pattern, studying tomes of protocol. Jesby denies any knowledge off the attack, and Darbin is a crater, so Ilk is unsure whom needs to be killed in order to stop the attack.
Amaranth's rest is disturbed by two air cars heading towards her window, the one in the rear possessing a blaring siren. She casts a spell from her book that apports the two drivers, naked, into her rooms. The cars crash into the cliff; the scruffy guy in the lead takes off through the door; the officious guy in the rear prattles on and on about aiding an official pursuit and duty as a citizen.
The scruffy guy trips over the Jean sleeping in the doorway, who wakes up and grabs him. The scruffy guy is carried back into Amaranth's room, and then both intruders are carried out of the room and tossed out of a window overlooking a lake.
When Jean returns, Jean and Amaranth head off in search of Mandor. They find him playing with a self-important individual. They chat, the induhvidual is dismissed, and Mandor discusses affairs of state, affairs of the heart, and other matters with his heir.
Norton, Celeste, Jean, and Norton's head people chat while waiting for Snarsht to finish fixing Felice. Norton seems bored. Snarsht is still curled up in Felice's lap.
Corwin's tame reaction to the white dust rain in Pearl's reality was commented upon.
Corwin - "Do you want me to take over Norton and drag him there?"
Norton - "Snarsht said that he didn't want me near
that. Do you want to take it up with him?"
Corwin - "Good point."
Rescuing our version of Benedict to set him against the evil Benedict is discussed, but no viable plans are produced, since both Nortons need to remain in attendance on Snarsht.
Those in Norton's head notice a sudden shift in Norton's perception. There is now an overlay in their perception from Felice's lap.
Ilk materializes in front of Osric, and passes the small jade origami dragon to him. Osric chats with the dragon, then thinks at it, giving it all of the information about the statues but leaving out Fringe-specific details. When he is done, the dragon flies back to Ilk.
Jean asks if he should tell Shiryu where the statues are that he's avoiding. The dragon flies over to Jean.
Jean tries to think into the dragon, and ends up budding into it, acquiring mental contact with Shiryu in the process. Unlike his other bodies, he doesn't seem to be in control of this one. Jean can tell that Shiryu is taking his time poking through his brain and learning all sorts of fascinating things.
Jean taps Rainbow on his shoulder. "Dad - Shiryu's in my head." "There, there. You poor thing." Flora offers to brew all of Jean a nice cup of tea.
Jean can tell that Shiryu now knows who created that hole in Chaos in the middle of Helgram and is aware of the goings-on in Norton's head.
Shiryu opens a small, private communications channel to Jean, and tells him that Celeste should take up her responsibilities as regent of Amber immediately, or deal with him.
Shiryu mentions to Jean that he seems to have a memory problem - when one of his bodies dies, he loses chunks of his memory. Shiryu offers to fix it for him, and Jean accepts. Shiryu decides to stick around for a while and hold a few deaths and see how Jean deals with those before making any major changes.
They chat a bit. Shiryu makes a minor change to Jean's mind such that Jean is no longer capable of saying Gwen's name.
Shiryu asks Jean to tell Mandor that he would like to see him and his entourage now. Jean does so. Location is discussed; when the words "at his door" are spoken, Mandor leaves at a dignified but rapid pace. Mandor, Jean, and Amaranth encounter Shiryu at the front door of Mandorways.
"You would be Mandor's new heir. Ooh - you have Flora in you. Mandor, your heir is very well turned out. You are going to need to call the Council immediately to deal with these statue things - better yet, your heir should call it - you'll be busy." Jean and Amaranth decide that they can handle calling the Council, especially after Flora agrees to help Jean.
Jean in the Council chamber announces the Council meeting. When he tells this to an Etiquette Guild member, that person says that Jean's sister should be here, too. Jean sends a barca-Jean to carry Amaranth to the Thelbane.
There is a member of the Etiquette Guild at the base of Clarissa's tower in Darkover arguing that he should be allowed to ascend.
A member of the Etiquette Guild arrives at House Cara and invites Osric, Vlad, the Savior of Chaos, and Gentleman Suhuy and his apprentice to the meeting.
When Amaranth enters the Council chambers, she is wearing a ring that she wasn't wearing before, and all of her weapons are gone. Jean explains to her that it probably indicates that she's the head or heir or something like that of Mandor's house.
Jean tells Princess Chandra that Shiryu is calling a Council meeting, now. Or rather, he and Amaranth are calling it for him, because he's busy with Mandor. Princess Chandra tells Cassandra that they'll be going to a council meeting. Cassandra, Cailin, Malachai and most of the other Amberites are on the list, too.
Jean tries to get some useful information out of Dworkin and fails, then Dworkin goes loopy and wanders off, thumbing through a book.
Jean tries to find others on the list, and sends the Dancers' Guild looking for Silver Lyra. He notifies Rainbow and Flora.
