Film technologies (camera, emulsion, projection devices) facilitate particular kinds of scientific seeing. Study of the development of high-speed cinematography through the work of Harold Edgerton at M.I.T., and time-lapse photography through the work of John Ott, provides an opportunity to examine the relationships among technology, vision and representation in the history of science.
