We have identified major species that migrate to the 1002 region such as whales, snow geese, tundra swans, long-tailed ducks and caribou.  Critical time periods appear to be in late summer to early fall, where species rely on the area for nutrition, breeding grounds, and resting places.  Potential consequences of oil drilling have also been examined for these species.  Seismic activity, noise pollution, and sound waves have all proven to affect these species negatively.
