"I have my own bike, so I'd only use Hubway in a pinch. It'd be hard to bike around a neighborhood I didn't know, since there is no GPS on the bike and no way to attach my phone to the bike. I'd prefer to ride with a helmet, and it's nice that Hubway promotes helmet use, but there aren't any available close to the stations. But I'm not quite sure about how to solve that logistical challenge."
"I didn't even realize that there was a bell on the bike and couldn't figure out how to change gears. I wish I would've brought my helmet. The process of obtaining a pass was a headache. We actually had to walk to another docking station to rent a bike because the touchscreen at the first station was so unresponsive!"
"The bike is really heavy and a little awkward for me to use (but it may be because of my form factor). I think I would use Hubway if I needed to get somewhere quick with no other options. There were a lot of screens to go through to rent the bike; do they expect people to read the 104 pages of the waiver on that little screen? The bike ride itself was smooth, but the controls on the bike were unintuitive."
While I have my own bike, I use Hubway for one-way trips, like going to Trader Joe's to get groceries (and taking an Uber back), and also when the weather is not that great and I don't want to get my bike dirty. I've never had any issues with bike or dock availability. I like the key unlock feature; it's really quick and user-friendly. The new app is also great. The space on the front to put bags is nice and I wish they also put a basket on the rear. The gear shifter is not great and the mechanism to raise/lower the seat could be marked better.
"I used Hubway when I have friends in town and we all want to get somewhere close, fast and easy. It's a pretty good solution. I think that logistical support for the locations of stations is not that great; for example, on the nearby station screen, they list the name of the station but do not show it on a map. How am I supposed to know where that station is? Docking the new bikes can be a bit of an issue and both generations of bike are really heavy."
