Things have been very strange the past couple of months. Claude has decided to stop printing catholic doctrine all together. He spent almost two years spending days and nights in the shop managing to print both sanctioned and revolutionary text. But now we are given a small supplemental income by Robespierre to continue printing Les Autres Idees as well as other revolutionary papers and such. Claude claims that the people will be grateful for our actions but I still need to feed my little girl. Speaking of which, I am pregnant again. Although it will be wonderful to have another baby running around the house, I'm worried of how it will cope with being born into such confusion. I don't think its right to be bringing another baby into a world of chaos but Danielle will have a little sibling and friend to help her through what is going on.
Claude has also become a member of the Cordeliers Club, a militant political society that has no boundaries on its members. He has asked me many times to join but I'm not certain of how I feel about militant political organizations. I think I might just get in a bit over my head.
Also in January, Sieyes presented a proposal for a law on sedition, libel and literary property to the National Assembly. Claude was in attendance at this particular meeting. He felt that the progress of enlightenment was going to come from public access to ideas, not restrictions. He was asking for a law granting freedom of press. It seems to me that there shouldn't be a law granting a freedom, there should just be the freedom. Oh well.
Over the past four months, the guillotine has been brought into full effect. Often, we can hear the cheers from downtown as the blade falls onto another neck. Its a terrible image accompanied by a horrific sound. I'm not certain of where France is heading but I'm afraid for my children.
