The lights came up in the room, and everyone realized that the last song had ended. I backed off of Gordon a little bit and smiled up at him. He gave me a little smile back, and we went to our table to collect our things.

Paul was sitting at the table and Wendy was looking around the table to see what she could take. "Do you guys think anyone would mind if I took this centerpiece?" she asked. It was a big clump of little dyed flowers surrounded by helium balloons. I know that Wendy wanted some sort of souvenir, but it's going to look so ugly when the flowers wilt and the balloons leak. She'll have a nasty pile of petals over her floor and glitter spilled everywhere within a week. "You can have it," I said, and everyone else agreed.

I got my heels and my purse, and we all filed out of the ballroom along with everyone else. Wendy said "Hi" and waved her centerpiece at everyone else who had one. I was holding Gordon's arm as we moved through the swarm to our waiting limo. There were about a dozen limos total, and Wendy waved to all of those, too, as she got in ours. I swear, if she saw anyone get into a limo with a centerpiece, she'd have run over and hugged whoever it was.

The limo ride home was far more sedate than the ride over. Everyone was fairly tired, which sorta bummed me out because I was hoping we could go to some 24-hour cheap-o restaurant for some dessert or something. But Gordon and Wendy each had to work in the morning, and Paul said he was just feeling too tired.

Oh well. I put my arms around Gordon as we drove back to drop everyone off.
