I walked out into the living room and there was Wendy, smiling and giggling as she saw me all fixed up for the dance. Every time we go to a dance she acts this way. It's like she's never seen me with make-up or my hair fixed up before. I gave Paul a quick "Hi" and then I saw Gordon.

Gordon looked a lot different from when I saw him at lunch. Then he was wearing his work clothes--well, not the apron and the paper hat, but the jeans and stuff that he wore under it--since he and Wendy were just on a break from work. He had smudges everywhere, and he didn't look up much because he was in a hurry, but he seemed to be a cool enough person.

Now he was all dressed up, had a haircut, got showered, and all that good stuff, and he looked like the kind of guy I'd like to be seen with on prom night.

My mom had us all line up in front of the fireplace for pictures, in groups of four and two and all sorts of combinations, and we tried to escape as soon as we could.

We finally escaped into the limo. God, that was funny. Wendy had been waiting nine years for that limo, and she went crazy back there. There was a little TV and a VCR which she played with, and she went bouncing from seat to seat to seat. Paul started bouncing around just to keep up with her, and then I joined in so they wouldn't feel bad.
