Yeah, the whole David situation was bothering me a little, but my talk with Wendy made me feel much more relieved. When we got out onto the floor, I was pleased; David was nowhere in sight. Wendy and I were dancing, and she was actually paying attention to me instead of trying to flag down her old boyfriend. Everything was all right, dancing there with her, not needing to worry about David, finally being able to relax.

Then I noticed she was looking off in the distance. "God," I thought, "don't let it be David." But on our next revolution around, there he was, David, standing in the far corner.

I was determined to keep Wendy from David while I was dancing with her. As we danced, I slowly moved us to the other side of Gordon and Karen. I didn't know if she wanted to move, but, after all, we were dancing and the man gets to lead in this sort of thing, right? So we moved away from David.

It wasn't working, though. Wendy kept looking up at David, and then it got to the point that she just kept turning her neck, craning to get a good view of him. And he kept coming closer and closer.

"Hey," I said to her, "I thought you said this dance would be mine and that you wouldn't let David interfere."

She glanced back at me. "Sorry, what?"

"Nothing," I grumbled.

She smiled a fake smile at me like nothing was wrong, and then she pushed me away and bolted out of the room.
