MIT started the game with good, hard aggressive
defense that led to several transition scores. Freshman Adam
Gibbons was able to convert several layups plus a foul
to allow the Engineers to jump out to an early lead. Sophomore
Kyle Doherty and freshman Mike
Huhs were able to score inside and give MIT a nice cushion.
After finally connecting on a three-pointer by sophomore Andrew
Tsai and another three-pointer by Gibbons,
MIT took a 17 point lead going into halftime.
MIT came out in the second half, picking
up right where they left off. Freshman Danny
Kanamori continued to wreak havoc with several steals
and penetrations leading to scores for other teammates. Gibbons
continued his strong shooting and the strong inside play of
Doherty, Huhs,
junior Boris Paskalev and junior
Sebastian Heersink again proved
to be too much. The crowd was also in for a treat in the second
half, as Kanamori connected with
Doherty on a sweet backdoor lob
for a two-handed dunk. Later, with the game in hand, Kanamori
brought the fans out of their seat in transition with a fake
behind-the-back, wrap around pass to a streaking Heersink
for an easy layup.
