Orthopedic implants are evolving from passive structural devices into active bioelectronic platforms. In
this talk, I will present my research on wireless metamaterial orthopedic implants, with a focus on
spinal fusion cages. These implants combine structural support with sensing, energy harvesting, and
electrical stimulation, enabling wireless bioelectronic functionality in a compact implantable platform.
The talk also introduces the use of evolutionary generative AI to design non-intuitive implant
architectures beyond conventional designs, along with ongoing in vivo evaluation. Finally, I will
discuss how this research supports a broader vision for next-generation implantable
bioelectronics.
