MIT Kerberos is an implementation of the Kerberos network authentication protocol. Kerberos is a standardized protocol using secret-key cryptography to authenticate clients and servers over insecure and untrusted networks. Kerberos is currently shipped with all major computer operating systems and is an important part of network security infrastructure at many organizations. MIT makes its Kerberos implementation available under open source license terms very similar to those of the BSD operating system and the X Window System.
