Mill Creek Neighborhood, West Philadelphia
My concept was inspired by observing public space in the West Philadelphia neighborhood where I live. Here, the street is the setting for social interaction, such as conversations on the front stoop or playing catch in the street. I explored these ideas further by reading Dan Rose's Black American Streetlife, in which the street is referred to as a stage. Rose writes about streetlife as a "continuous stream of performing with others in moments of contact." |
The site is located in the Mill Creek neighborhood, a few blocks west of my home. The proposed location for the miniature golf course is 48th and Haverford.
