From the discussion in section 2, it is clear that both the FE and the BE methods
have rather poor convergence to the solution, the rate of convergence scaling linearly with h.
A number of efficient higher order techniques exists in the literature, we will discuss
two classes of methods which are widely used, the Runge-Kutta (RK) and the Adams
methods.
