Objectives

Create a Comprehensive flood protection system for the City of New Orleans Including:

  • Levees constructed according to a single standard for height
  • The integration of armoring on levees to reduce the amount of water damage caused by storm surges
  • The incorporation of T- walls and L-walls to replace all I- walls
  • The implemention of a storm gate on Lake Pontchartrain and a surge barrier of Lake Borgne to prevent Katrina-like and worse storm surge inudnation
  • Create a realistic, cost effective plan

Create a risk assesment system for the levees

  • Create a monitoring system to warn authorities of levee subsidence in real time
    • Incorporate existing technologies currently being used in measuring seismic activity in the construction of levees. Such technologies would allow engineers and researchers to monitor even the slightest movements in levees on a day to day basis.
    • We believe that the system should be monitored by an apolitical organization. We envision scientists and engineers from universities in the area would be excellent for the job.
