We dimensioned the holds as shown below to provide a comfortable grip for climbing while maintaining the distinct jelly bean shape. Each hold also has two 3/8" countersink holes to secure the hold to the wall.

In order to give the room more variety and increase difficulty, we chose to introduce different types of jelly bean holds. The jellybean shape and size of each of the holds is the same to maintain a constant theme, but the way they sit on the wall is different. One hold has a gap between the jelly bean and the wall, while the second hold sits flush with the wall.

From these two different models we can achieve three different ways to grip the jellybean holds based on their type and orientation. The jellybean hold with the gap between the wall allows users to secure their fingers behind the jellybean and get a good grip. In rock climbing terms this is known as a "Jug Hold". The second jellybean hold that sits flush with the wall requires users to grab the hold from the top, known as a "Crimp Hold". Finally, mounting the flush jellybean hold at a 90 degree angle results in the third type, "Pinch Hold", in which users squeeze the hold with their thumb and fingers places on opposite sides.

To secure each hold to the wall we used the screw on method. We used 3/8" screws and t-nuts to firmly secure each hold to the wall.

We connected wires to one screw per jelly bean hold, which was then wired to a capacitive touch sensor and arduino in order to determine which holds are touched at a given time
