User Experience

Scale Model

We built a 11.5:1 scale model of our room in order to show create a looks-like model of the room and to demonstrate our intended user experience.
The center-piece of the room is large well-like structure that is 8 feet tall and 4 feet in diameter. It is the main component and dominates the room. Inside the well, there are goldem eggs on the ground, tentacles along the walls and straw nests along the top. Ropes drape over the top and into the center of the well, and torches line the wall beside the doors.

Fabrication

A dark grey brick wallpaper was used to line the walls of the room, and a grey stone "wallpaper" was used for the floor. These were chosen to imitate a dungeon, creating and dark and eerie feeling. We wanted to room to be able to immerse the users in a dim and scary room.
The well was made from laser cut wood and clear acrylic. The wood was spray painted with a textured spray paint and painted over with grey and black. This was to create a rough, concrete-like texture to match the dark and dingy walls.

The tentacles and eggs were made from an oven-bake clay, while the nests were made using straw, and the ropes were made from twine. Finally, the decorative torches were made to add some lightness to the room. Their bases were made from oven-bake clay and the fire itself was made from colored tissue paper.
