Room Assembly
By Haluk Akay
The escape room setting for the stabilizer game features a clear entrance and egress doorway, and the stabilizer itself is featured prominently in the center of the room. Muted dark colors attempting to connotate outer space and a mysterious feeling are used for the floor and walls, while the stabilizer itself is orange to give it a functional feeling as a key component of the spacecraft. This color selection draws the players to the task at hand while setting the mood.
The Room
One of the key considerations when deciding how the various sub-assemblies in the room would fit together was safety and usability. A raised platform above the actual floor of the room allows the players to lower themsleves into the stabilizer, and fall a shorter distance if they let go or lose balance while playing, as their feet will be inside the blue dish but they will fall backwards onto a floor that's bench level. The dimensions of the stabilizer are only limited by the maximum radius that would fit in the room and still allow people to move around.
The handle has five places for players to hold on such that a maximum team of five people can play, but the handle is designed such that three people can also space themselves and balance out the stabilizer using grips from whichever handle they wish. From the top view, the constellations are visible; the stars are secured on cables stretching across the top of the room, still allowing for sprinkler access. Structurally the room is mostly supported by the nested dish, but has room for more strucutral supports to be placed under the platform if need be.
Ready up, players!
This room features an game that is very easy to understand the goals of, but very hard to complete without good team communication and a sense of group balance. Good luck, players!
