A timer making the machine turn off after, say, 20 minutes, would prevent coffee from burning in the pot and prevent potential fires when the machine is left on without the user there. This could be a third position on the switch or a separate button. That way if a user wants to keep the coffee hot at their office desk for an hour, that is also an option.
Better Filtering
A permanent filter that fits within the filter cup instead of a paper filter would help prevent coffee grounds from sneaking into the user’s coffee. The use needs to take ou tthe paper filter and rinse the filter cup anyway, so using and cleaning a permanent filter would not cause any extra work.
Different pot shape to avoid steam
The pot should have a longer spicket or the handle should be placed further away from the spicket so the user’s hand is never in contact with the coffee steam. The pot should be able to be emptied without the user's hand needing to be directly above the poured cuup of coffee.
