Human Use Analysis: Simmons Hall Laundry

Introduction and Background

My dorm, Simmons Hall, has a very unique set up with 6 contiguous floors and 3 towers that cover floors 7-10. As a result, not all floors are easily accessible from all parts of the building and not every elevator or set of stairs goes to every floor. Simmons has 5 laundry rooms at different locations around the building- each with two washers and two dryers.

MacGray laundry machines are intended for students living in dorms on campus. They are intended to be energy efficient, easily available/accessible, easy to use, and easy to pay for. More information about MacGray laundry machines can be found here. Students are able to check availability of washers and dryers here. Detailed views of each laundry room can be accessed here as well in order to determine how much time is left on each machine before it is available. Students can pay for the machines using quarters ($1 each for one cycle of the washer and dryer) or using TechCash on their MIT ID.
