3rd SMAAC Committee

Message from SMAAC President

Helen ChuwardiWelcome to the SMA Alumni Club (SMAAC) website. I would like to thank all the alumni members for your enthusiastic support and look forward to your continuous participation and co-operation.

The very first event that our new management committee organized for work year 2003/2004 was the “Innovation Seminar” on 30 August 2003 in NUS. The club invited distinguished industrial speakers from Applied Materials and 3M to present on “Innovation in Hi-Tech” and “ Innovation in Corporate Setting Design for 6-sigma” respectively. These talks aimed to promote industrial and technological application awareness and create better networking opportunities for the SMA students.

Just a week after the seminar, the club organized the "Amazing Race Cum Buffet Dinner " at Sentosa. Five teams of about ten members each took part in the race. The event was graced by the presence of Prof Andrew Nee (SMA Co-Director, Singapore), Prof Anthony Patera (SMA Co-Director, MIT), Prof Jaime Peraire (HPCES Programme Co-Chair), Prof Li Le-Wei (HPCES Fellow) and their family members. The race, which was successfully completed, achieved its objectives of breaking the ice between old and new students and building better rapport amongst the students, seniors and professors.

In the coming months, the club aims to organize its first charity drive during the Christmas and New Year season to help raise funds for the needy students under the School Pocket Money Fund. More information on this will be released soon.

Many thanks to the committee members who have spent much time and effort in organizing the events. Last but not least, I wish all of you success in your endeavours.

SMAAC 3rd Annual General Meeting

The 3rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the SMA Alumni Club (SMAAC) was held on 26 April 2003 in NUS. The incumbent President, Tee Chin Wee, commenced the AGM with a welcome speech. A brief on the activities that were organized during work year (WY) 2002/2003 was presented. These activities included the design and printing of the SMAAC T-shirts, Sentosa Annual Get-together Event, Seafood Dinner Gathering for MIT Fellows and Students, and the Annual Bowling Competition which was held after the AGM. The incumbent treasurer, Alvin Teng, reported on the financial status of the club.

The Life Membership scheme for all SMA graduates was approved by the committee. This scheme allows for one-time payment of the membership fees and reduces the hassle of having to pay the Ordinary Membership dues annually. The election of the new Management Committee was carried out smoothly.
