(New Users) Install $SumMIT with DAL on your workstation

(Windows 95/NT users) OTG $SumMIT runs better on 95/NT than does $SumMIT with DAL, and the installation is simpler. (Power Mac users) The OTG $SumMIT installation is simpler; and there are some advantages to running OTG $SumMIT on a power Mac.

Steps for installing $SumMIT with DAL

1. Get $SumMIT installation file on your workstation,
   • (regular (non-power) Mac users) Download $SumMIT files from the CAO menu on MITVMA.

     This step assumes you have a connection to the campus network and TN3270 terminal emulation software. TN3270 is free and can be downloaded from MIT file servers.

   • (Windows 3.1 users) CAO can e-mail you the Summit installation file. For more information, contact Marie Ludwig at 3-1132 or mludwig@mit.edu).

2. Install $SumMIT with DAL files (on Mac or Windows 3.1)

3. Update to $SumMIT v4.40 via CAO's web site.

(Mac users) Get $SumMIT on your workstation

There are 3 steps you need to perform, as described below. Note: You need a MIDAS userid on MITVMA to perform the first two steps.

• Set MIDAS options

• Download $SumMIT files

• Install $SumMIT files on Mac

1. Run TN3270; and logon to MITVMA.
   Note: Click here to download TN3270.

2. When you get to the CAO main menu, enter "MIDAS" and select option 5.
   Result: The MIDAS Options screen displays, shown below.
3. Check to see that your Data Format and Transmission Protocol options are set correctly.

   For a Mac, data format = tab-limited, transmission protocol = WMac (see the sample screen below).

4. To enter/change a MIDAS Options setting, tab to the field to its left, and type X.
   To erase a setting, tab to the field to its left, and press Spacebar.

5. Press RETURN to save the settings.
   Result: A message reports that your options were updated successfully.

6. Press your key for PF3 repeatedly to redisplay the CAO main menu.

2. (Mac users) Download $SumMIT from CAO Main Menu

1. On the command line of the CAO main menu, enter SUMDOWN.

2. When prompted, select which version (regular, Power Mac) to download.

3. When prompted, press Return to continue.
   Result: A dialogue box prompts you for a transfer destination folder.

4. Click on the Desktop button to select your desktop.
   Note: Do NOT change the filename.

5. Click on Save to continue.
   Result: The download takes a few minutes. A window opens to report on its progress.
