Residence Halls

MIT residence halls are available for use by conference attendees and their guests from the second week in June through the second week in August. These residences provide a low-cost alternative to local area hotels and are centrally located to many local area attractions and to public transportation. Most are situated along the banks of the Charles River and boast spectacular views of the river and the Boston skyline.

Single and double accommodations are available in both air-conditioned and non air-conditioned buildings. Cots may be reserved for children between the ages of 6 and 14 (in double rooms only/limit two cots per room). Children under six years of age may not be accommodated on the MIT campus.

There is a limited number of rooms with private baths. Most buildings offer shared bathrooms—one women's and one men's per floor. Guestrooms are equipped with a blanket, pillow, towels, twin-size bed(s), desk(s), closet and a telephone for local and incoming calls. Long-distance calls can be made collect or with a credit/calling card.

Rooms are serviced daily (towels changed, waste receptacles emptied), and linens are changed weekly. Irons and fans are available at the front desk on a first-come, first-served basis. Each building has vending machines and coin-operated laundry machines on the lower level. Smoking is not permitted inside the buildings. Toiletries are not provided.

Reservations

Residence hall stays may be managed in one of two ways. Organizers may arrange a room block, for which they provide a detailed guest list two weeks prior to the group's arrival date. Alternatively, MIT Conference Services could manage the reservation process, receiving payments from and providing confirmations to guests directly. Due to the large amount of summer activity, requests for residence hall room blocks should be made well in advance of the conference dates.
