The Confronting Obstacles and Realizing Excellence (C.O.R.E) program is focused on increasing the quantitative reasoning skills of Boston area youth who need to improve in their math courses.  The premise for SEED C.O.R.E is that all students can excel in math and scientific reasoning if they are provided with a fundamental core of mathematical knowledge. 


The C.O.R.E program will be an intensive two-week quantitative course sponsored by the MIT Office of Engineering Outreach Programs that covers these major topics:


  1. Basic Computation

  2. Conversion and Transformation

  3. Estimation and Approximation

  4. Ratios and Proportions

  5. Unit Analysis

  6. Variable Manipulation and Equalities


Who can apply?

Participants must be of rising 8th, 9th and 10th graders from public high schools in Boston and Cambridge who will take algebra or geometry in Fall 2012. Applicants should demonstrate a clear need for improving their math skills.


What are the dates of the program?

The program will run from August 6-17, 2012.
