Co-inventor of the ARD device, while under the employ of the Kopfberg Project. Ironically, the same person to eventually expose the Project's abuses under Operation Nightshade.
While a graduate student of physics, Dr. Antona wrote the following letter to a student newspaper, in a debate about science and ethics.
I do not care to speculate why, by many people tend to confuse the fine line between blame and duty. If a scientist honestly believes that her discovery will be used only for good, she is clearly without blame if her work is used to kill and maim. On the other hand, our duty follows us for life. Just as it is our duty to try to reform our children, if they turn to crime, it is also our duty to ensure that our creations are used to create, and increase happiness, rather than to destroy and diminish. After aiding in the development of the ARD device, Antona began to express misgivings to his superiors about the possible uses of the ARD device. He argued (according the the version presented in his autobiography) that the device's potential for abuse was limitless, and should not be allowed to exist unregulated for the use of federal agents. His employers, on the other hand, believed that compromising the security of the device would destroy most of its potential usefulness. This altercation is widely cited as Antona's reason for abandoning the Project.
Opinion on his decision to expose the Project's activities varied widely. Though President Burngray chose to grant Dr. Antona immunity from espionage charges (for the "crime" of revealing the nature of his work to the public), most law-enforcement and national security groups considered his actions as treasonous.
Dr. Antona is currently a highly regarded professor of quantum biophysics, and author of many tombs on science and ethics. In 2030, Dr. Antona officially emigrated from the U.S. to San Corenzo, in order to participate in what he terms "Open research into the Darura question, in a country ruled by the only what seems to be non-oppressive government in the history.
