The Theseus Scenario is a SIK game produced by Albanian Heavy Industries, who are: Telmo Correa, Ekaterina Kuznetsova, Dave Leung, Clint Lohse, Eli Stickgold, and Jim Waldrop.
Game is Sunday, 14 May 2006, from 1-7pm. This game will run twice, with teams swapping sides.
The scenario for the game, as will be described more fully in your packet, is a simultaneous drop of two combined units into two nearly-identical abandoned FSA hypertech / rifttech facilities on the moon Miniwheat, in the Kellogg system. The two complexes have been designated "Omaha Complex" and "Utah Complex", in an apparent attempt by your respective High Commands to underscore the importance of the mission assigned to you. Heavy casualties are expected.
Each of Omaha Force and Utah Force is made up of 4 squads, one from each of the Phyraxian Dominions, Free Sagittarian Alliance, a black project from Delphi Heavy Industries codenamed "Titan", and a black department of Camelot Interstellar codenamed "Symphony".
The Omaha Complex drop will be played out first. During this encounter, the Utah Complex team will play the part of "Team Voltron", the Warbots. Other parts may or may not be played by third parties unaffiliated with either Omaha Force or Utah Force.
All players cast in Theseus Scenario have access to their PC information, as the PC mechanics are more complicated than the NPC mechanics. In addition, Utah Force has access to Warbot mechanics, for the purposes of running the Omaha Complex drop. (Obligatory disclaimer: Please do not cheese this-- the GMs reserve the right to arbitrarily tweak numbers, mechanics, or entire concepts in our game to avoid metagaming for the Utah Complex drop.) Omaha Force will receive handouts at the game break detailing Warbot mechanics. In addition, some of the Warbot commanders for the Utah Complex drop will receive Warbot mechanics ahead of time. Again, please do not cheese this; this is intended to preprocess a lot of the Warbot mechanic questions and commander planning, to make the game run more smoothly and within the 6 hour timeframe, not to give you an edge fighting the Warbots.
We promised a non-experimental game. We do not consider this experimental. We have run several two-phase games recently, and we believe this will not cause some of the failure modes we have seen in said games.
As the game casting can be trivially assembled by members of your team, it is reproduced here. (Also, we want to show off all the cool names. It is, predictably, all about us.)
Finally, we realize that there are a lot of mechanics in this packet and many of the mechanics and pre-game setups are not as cleanly explained as they could have been. We do expect questions. In most cases, the answer will be rather common-sense; however, send us your questions at albanian-heavy-industries@mit.edu.
