The works displayed on MIT's E-merging Journal are protected by copyright and other applicable laws and are made available by MIT's E-merging Journal for use by you, the individual accessing the E-merging Journal, solely for your own educational, non-commercial, non-monetary purposes provided you credit the author(s) identified on the particular work(s) and the MIT E-merging Journal for the material you use.

Submission Guidelines

We encourage submissions from all MIT students or recent graduates in the form of fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, or artwork. Submissions will be reviewed anonymously by a board of students and professors. See below for detailed guidelines.

E-merging publishes once a year in May with submission deadline around early March. Submissions should be sent to e_mergingsubmit(at)mit.edu at any time.

Guidelines

  • Entire piece should be less than 15 pages.
  • Writings must be done in English or multiple languages including English.
  • Writing and artwork should reflect the spirit of this journal, expressing in refreshing ways trans-national and trans-cultural experiences. For ideas please read/look through previously published pieces. Also, you can learn more about us under the "About Us" section.

Submission Details

  1. Please include a coversheet with your name, title of work, email/contact info., and MIT affiliation.
  2. Please DO NOT include your name any where else in the piece (e.g. no name in header or footer). This will facilitate our anonymous review process. If your name appears as a part of a story, we will block it out during the review process. Please let us know if that is the case.
  3. Please use standard fonts and formats, and number your pages
  4. Also, please include the name of your piece in the name of your file (e.g. my_title_is_this.doc).
  5. For written work although MS Word format is preferred, you may also submit in pdf format, but if your piece is accepted for publication, we will request that you send us a .doc version of your writing.
  6. Artwork should be digitally publishable. The preferred formats are .jpg and .gif.
