Grounds Greens MIT
Grounds Services maintains the Institute's outdoor areas and provides a clean, comfortable, and functional environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The group also handles event setup and snow removal. The staff includes landscape workers and gardeners.
Grounds staff conduct garden tours several times a year, showcasing hidden gems and notable landscaping on campus. The tours are conducted in collaboration with the MIT Activities Committee (MITAC) to inform the community about new and historic gardens and courtyards on the urban campus.
The tours, usually given in the late spring and fall, point out more than 25 featured plants, including varieties of hydrangeas and rhododendrons as well as oak, maple, and birch trees.
