Campus Services
Campus Services focuses on the people of the MIT community and provides vital services such as mail and delivery services, groundskeeping, and recycling. Sustainability measures implemented by Campus Services include the use of more fuel-efficient vehicles and green cleaning products and equipment.
Custodial Services is responsible for cleaning approximately 8 million square feet of MIT offices, classrooms, labs, and public spaces. Teams aim to provide top quality cleaning services, sanitation, and coordination of pest removal. Most cleaning is conducted during evening and night shifts to minimize potential disruptions, but we strive to address custodial emergencies promptly.
The Customer Service Center serves as a portal to Facilities’ services (including custodial, grounds work, and repair and maintenance) for the entire community, fielding service requests and working with staff across the Department to address customer needs. The team streamlines work orders, handles key requests and lock repairs, and can answer questions about billing or the status of a job. Contact the CSC at 617-253-4948 or dof-csc@mit.edu, or visit the Center in Building E17-129. Hours are Monday through Friday, 7AM to 4:30PM.
Fleet Management provides service and maintenance for MIT-owned vehicles, including oil changes, brake jobs, exhaust work, and tune-ups. Mechanics are available Monday through Friday, 7AM to 3PM, on campus in Building W57. For an appointment, contact dof-vehiclerepair@mit.edu.
Grounds Services maintains the accessibility and beauty of MIT’s outdoor areas through activities that range from event setup to landscaping and snow removal. The team’s landscape workers and gardeners provide a clean, comfortable, and functional environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Mail Services handles more than 10 million pieces of outgoing and incoming campus and U.S. mail each year, providing pickup at campus boxes and distribution points and delivery to academic, service, and residence buildings. The team offers professional mass mailings as well as shipping and receiving services for large packages and other freight at campus loading docks. Find more details.
The Parking & Transportation Office supports and encourages a variety of commuting options, giving community members the flexibility to choose each day how they would like to travel. The team oversees MIT’s subsidized parking and public transportation programs, shuttle services, and bike programs, and provides education and resources relating to a range of transportation choices. Recycling & Materials Management oversees all waste and recycling programs on campus, with the goal of decreasing waste and increasing MIT’s rate of reuse and recycling. Services include pickup, sorting, and handling, and the program goes beyond typical office materials to include recycling of food waste, landscape waste, demolition materials, and computer parts.
