Repairs, Shipping/Receiving, Facilities:
Visit this web site to request repair services from Facilities (for anything broken in the lab that is not a
piece of purchased equipment, such as a fume hood not working, broken cabinet handles, broken door
stops, burned out lights, leaky sinks, etc.):
http://web.mit.edu/facilities/services/index.html
(Scroll down and click on "Repairs and Installations". Scroll down again and click on "Repair Form" under "Request a Service".
You will need a certificate on your computer to access the repair form.)
If the lab needs electrical services, contact Steve Gilligan (sgilliga@plant.mit.edu)
from Facilities. He can give advice about what the electrical services will cost and how long they will take to complete.
The phone number for shipping and receiving for Building 66 is x3-1641, and the address is 400 Main Street,
Cambridge, MA 02139. They can tell you if a package has been delivered to MIT, even if it has not been delivered
to the lab yet. To send out a package, take it over to the Main Street location along with a signed requisition form.

Trash and Recycling:
For pick up of large amounts of paper for recycling, email recycling@mit.edu, or
take the paper downstairs to the basement, where there are recycling bins in room 56-086.
To request the removal of large or heavy trash items (old computers and printers, packing crates, old filing cabinets,
unwanted tables or desks, etc.), place the items in the hallway outside 66-325, fill out a requisition form for MIT Grounds,
and FAX it to 617-258-7490.

Requesting Floor Cleaning:
To request cleaning and waxing of the floors in 325 and 321, send an email with your request
to cust-coach@mit.edu. They usually respond right away and will also tell
you if it will cost anything to have the floors done, too. Most of the time it's free if you only request it 3-4 times a year.

Cleaning and Calibrating Lab Equipment:
To have the lab's pipets cleaned and calibrated, call Ray Chevez from Turro Micro Service Company at 1-800-791-5288.
He will come to the lab and perform the cleaning and calibrating here.
To have the balances cleaned and calibrated, call Mettler Toledo at 1-800-METTLER. Get a quote from them for
cleaning and calibrating the 3 balances we have in the lab. Our customer number is 011450.069. Once you have a
quote, get a PO number from SAPWeb or Purchasing, and then call Mettler back to arrange for the service.

Gas Tanks in the Lab:
The standard gases that we order from BOC for general use in the lab are as follows:
- Nitrogen - NI T
- Oxygen - OX S or OX T (this one is the same grade but larger)
- Air - BA HD
- Carbon Dioxide - CD G
If you order online through SAPWeb, click on "Build Order" and then "Catalog". If you click on "Pure Gas", you will not be
able to find the choices listed above. If there are empty gas tanks to return, type the number of empty tanks under "Rtn" on
the online order form. Empty tanks in the lab are usually designated by a paper towel sticking out of the cap on top of the tank.
If you have any questions about ordering gases for the lab, talk to John Jordan of BOC. He's in the basement of 56, just
past the VWR stockroom, in room 56-022, or email him at
John.Jordan@us.gases.boc.com.

Glassware Repair/Alteration:
To have scientific glassware repaired or altered, visit Bob DiGiacomo in the basement of the chemistry department,
room 4-069. He is usually in from 6-9am on Thursday mornings, but his hours can be erratic and he often goes on vacation.
The number for his repair facilities is x3-2109, but there is no voice mail and Bob only answers the phone when he is there
(again, usually on Thursday mornings). If you go over there and can't find him, wander next door to 4-063, and someone
there can usually help you track him down. Note that Bob only takes cash for repairs done outside the Chemistry Department,
although he always provides a receipt so you can get reimbursed. If Bob is on vacation for a while, you can also ship
your scientific glassware to Yankee Glass Blower. The address is 117 Robbins Drive, Carlisle, MA 01741, and the phone
number is 978-369-7545. Patrick is the person you want to talk to about repairs and payment.

Ordering Matlab for Your Computer:
Web site to order Matlab for your computer at MIT:
https://web.mit.edu/is/products/vsls/speceng/matlab.html
(You will not be able to access this website unless you have a web certificate installed on your computer, and you will probably
have to copy and paste the link above, instead of just clicking on it, to access the site.)

MIT Central Machine Shop:
The MIT Central Machine Shop is located in the subbasement of Building 38 in room 38-001. The easiest way to get
there is through Building 36. Facing the elevators in Building 36, you want the one on the far right. It is the only elevator
that goes down to the subbasement level, level B (not level M). In the Machine Shop, you want to talk to either Peter
Morley (pmorley@mit.edu) or Andrew Gallant
(agallant@mit.edu). Both are very willing to help you in the design process of a
device, not just manufacturing it. Visit the shop's website at
http://web.mit.edu/afs/athena.mit.edu/org/c/cmshop/.

Basic Laboratory Supplies:
The centrifuge filters that are used in the lab to wash magnetic fluid can be purchased from Millipore. The part number
is UFC5BHK08. They are the Centricon Plus-80 Biomax-100 filters (8 pack) with a 100,000 molecular weight cutoff.
Refill packs for the first aid kit can be ordered from VWR (the 25-Person Portable First Aid Kit). The part number is
56613-216 for the whole kit, and 56613-218 for the refill contents only (which is usually what you want).
