Hatton Lab Safety Information
Chemical Safety Information
This web page contains the chemical safety rules and procedures that apply to the Hatton Lab. This information
is intended for use primarily by the Hatton Lab group members, but most of it can also be used as a guide for general
laboratory safety.
The Student Safety Coordinator (SSC) for the Hatton Lab is Smeet Deshmukh. Feel free to contact her
at smeet@mit.edu or call her at x3-8182 with any questions related to the lab safety.
Safety Training and Hazardous Waste Disposal at MIT
The web site for online safety training is as follows:
http://web.mit.edu/environment/training/index.html
Please keep your annual training up-to-date.
The web site for hazardous waste pick up, both for chemicals and for the sharps buckets, is as follows:
http://web.mit.edu/environment/ehs/chem_collection.html
You can also order more red hazardous waste tags and extra secondary containers from this web site, too.
To dispose of unknowns, email David Burke at tei@mit.edu. In the email, state how many unknowns need to be disposed of, where they are (they should always be in 66-325), and provide an account number for their disposal ($50 each). The unknowns should be tagged with a red hazardous waste tag and placed in the yellow solvent cabinet for pick up.
For information on almost any topic concerning waste generation or safety in the lab, visit the Environmental Health
and Safety (EHS) web site at the following address:
