9th Annual International HERUG Conference         MIT, Cambridge, MA, USA         March 21–24, 2005

Travelling to MIT

Fly into Logan International Airport (BOS)

Taxi: Taxi fare from the airport is about $25-$30. Under normal traffic conditions the taxi ride will take about 25 minutes.

Subway: (commonly called "The T"): From any terminal at Logan airport, take the airport shuttle bus to the Blue Line subway station. Take the Blue Line to the Government Center station. Go upstairs and take the Green Line to Park Street. At the Park Street station, go downstairs and take the Red Line outbound toward Alewife. Under normal conditions the ride will take about 45 minutes. The cost is $1.25.
If you are going directly to the Conference: Get off at the Kendall/MIT station. When you exit the T, cross the street and take a right (you are on Main St. and will pass a small hotel in an old brick firehouse – The Kendall). When you come to the second intersection (Vassar St.), the Conference will be in the very unique building to your left.
If you are going to the Hotel@MIT: Get off at the Central Square station. Exit to street level, then cross Massachusetts Ave. Go left three blocks and take first right after the fire station onto Sidney Street. Walk down one block and entrance to hotel is on left on Green Street.

Car: Not recommended, as the drive from Logan Airport and parking near MIT can both be rather nasty. Take the Sumner Tunnel exit from the airport (not the Ted Williams Tunnel) and follow the signs toward Boston via the Sumner Tunnel. The tunnel toll is $3. As you exit the tunnel, take the ramp onto the expressway (I-93 North). Take the second exit, marked 'Storrow Drive West'. Immediately take the right fork of the road to a stoplight. Turn left, then immediately turn right and drive over the Charles River. At the second traffic light after the river, take a left onto Ames Street and then a right onto Main Street. The HERUG Conference will be on your left in the very unique building at the corner of Main and Vassar Street. If you are going to the Hotel@MIT take a left on Vassar and go to the next intersection, and take a right on Massachusetts Ave. Go through one set of lights. As you approach the second set of lights take a left onto Sydney St. about 100 feet before the lights.

Take Amtrak to Boston (South Station):

The connection from here is the quickest and easiest. Go downstairs and take the Red Line “Inbound” toward Alewife. The cost is $1.25. It will take 10 to 15 minutes.

Parking Information:

Parking in Cambridge can be difficult. There are some metered spots on the street. Alternatively, parking is available for a fee in the parking garage in the Technology Square Garage.

The entrance to Technology Square is between Polcarri's Restaurant and 200 Technology Square / Building NE43 on Main Street. Another public parking garage is available on Ames Street between Legal Seafoods and Quantum Books. There is also a parking garage near the hotel on Green St.
