peplum

a flounce or short, flared tier that may be added to the waistline of any garment. peplums extend from the waist and around the hips. a peplum is developed as a tier. extension of bodice of dress that comes below waistline, sometimes, pleated, sometimes flared. can be made into one piece with bodice, cut separately and joined to bodice by a seam, or attached to a belt.
