an accessory for the eyes. sunglasses are glasses with coloured lenses designed to allow the wearer to not be blinded by intense light, in which case the lenses are often coated with materials to protect against uv radiation and glare. sunglasses may also be worn as a disguise, which is effective because it obscures the eyes, the feature typically most peculiarly characteristic of a person. glasses are also worn solely for purposes of style. an attractive, flattering pair of sunglasses greatly enhances the coolness factor of any person. some lenses worn for purposes of style have only lightly coloured (rather than) darkly tinted lenses.
