Howard Lasnik
MW 4:50-6:30
location: 32-123
course web site: http://www.ling.umd.edu/lasnik/LSA%20course/LSA%20208.htm

The derivation police are everywhere, watching for you to move too far, to stay put when instructed to move, to move when you shouldn't. This course will explore how to avoid being caught, and how to avoid a penalty if you are. Among the topics will be islands, Phase Inpenetrability, Relativized Minimality, the Case Filter, and the EPP. Assumed background will be a prior course in GB syntax and at least some exposure to Minimalism.
