LSA.210 | Linguistics K through 12

Maya Honda and Wayne O'Neil
TR 4:50-6:30
location: 32-144
course web site: http://lsa.dlp.mit.edu/Class/210

This course has two goals. First, we want to present a rationale for incorporating linguistic inquiry in the K-12 curriculum in order to develop students' science-forming capacity. Second, we want course participants to learn how to construct and present inquiry-directed activities about language that are age-appropriate. After examining a range of proposals to introduce primary- and secondary-school students to linguistics for various purposes, we will focus on attempts to engage students in seriously investigating what most take for granted: their knowledge of language.
