location: 56-114
In this course we will consider two competing models of lexical representations focusing on the interplay of speech perception and phonology. One of the basic assumptions in both models is that the same representations underlie competence and performance. Variability in speech, perceptual salience and constraints, context and speaker effects, influence of language-specific patterns of contrast, are some of the issues that we will focus on. We will orient the course around empirical findings, offering a perspective on how our individual approaches contend with these data. |
