Research summary:
My research focus is on the study of cardiomyocyte and endothelial cell crosstalk within microphysiological systems. I develop and employ microfluidic systems that incorporate cardiac spheroids of stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes with perfusable microvascular networks containing a flow-sensitive cellular reporter. These devices allow me to apply flow in the microvasculature and study the effects on cardiomyocyte contractility, in order to understand how vascular hemodynamic forces affect cardiac function.
