This is my class ring from MIT, class of 2002. The
brass rat is a traditional ring, uniquely designed by each undergraduate
class. On the top the beaver, our mascot, is holding a stick that
is half a diploma. Four drops of water is coming of its hand, signifying
the four years we invest at MIT. The water drops cause ripples in
the water, which has four leaves in the shape of north america,
south america, asia, and australia floating on top. This is to represent
the effects of our investment on the world. In the beaver's fur
is hidden MIT, in the left upper corner, the branches form "77",
our sister class. Beneath the tree is an owl, signifying knowledge.
The lower right hand corner, in the stacks the beaver is building,
the letters, "IHTFP" siginifies "I Have Truely Found Paradise" (not).
Various other symbols are on the ring. On the inside
band my name in script is engraved, and so is a map of the main
campus. On the shield side of the ring, the scholar and the blacksmith
hav been replaced with a female computer scientist (she's holding
a laptop) and a protestor (holding a picket sign). The class of
2002 is the first undergraduate class to have near 50/50 representation
of male and female students (hence the female). And because student
of the class of 2002 had the opportunity to insert their opinion
on new dorm policies and student food choices, we became known for
the protests we have staged.
