Virtual MargArt Gallery :: chomper

To view the Virtual MargArt Gallery and chomper you will need a VRML browser. Several programs are free for download.

Windows Platform -- Cosmo Player is no longer being maintained, but the program is very reliable; Blaxxun Interactive has a plugin that is great if your hardware accelerator / 3D renderer / video card is in top shape (gamers, this is the one you want); Cortona is another good alternative. It is being maintained, and its VRML viewer is currently being developed for PDA uses.

Macintosh Platform -- MacLookat is an official version I have yet to test. Both Cosmo Player and Cortona have beta versions for Macintosh. Go to the Web3D Repository Plugins page for a complete selection.

Linux / Workstation Platform -- Cosmo Player has versions for SGI / IRIX.

The gallery is currently unoptimized. The file (~9 Mb) will take some loading, so start the download and read about the project while you wait.

The Virtual MargArt Gallery

The Virtual MargArt Gallery in daylight

When I first started this project, I envisioned a 3D virtual space where I can exhibit my 3D work as well as links in a "framed artwork" format of my websites. Unfortunately VRML technology is still quite limited, therefore, for space issues, the gallery is shaved down to two floors.

The original had three sets of spiral staircases. The current one has one of the original, and an external one to get to the roof.

Various functionalities had to be tossed since Form-Z does not create optimized VRML code. The program did not recognized copied items, therefore it recreates each column of the railing as a new object.

I had planned to link the screen shots to my archived work. However the WRL file generated is too large to sort through via text editors. That plan has been put aside for future implementations.

The Gallery without walls and floors

Because the VRML environment can, at best, render in OpenGL, the beautiful renderings in Form-Z is horribly under represented. Hence these photos display what the gallery should look like.

The chess set originally sat on the chess board. But the redraw rate was too slow with all the pieces in one place. Also, the screenshots of my websites do not show up in VRML, but they are rendered in the Form-Z environment.

Now that you have read about the project, go see The Virtual MargArt Gallery.
Chomper makes an appearance in the gallery. But I also created a VRML of chomper using Rhino just for comparison. The file is smaller than the quicktimeVR of Chomper actually. In addition it gives you more flexibility in interacting with Chomper. Enjoy!
