High Line, New York -- Vision
Residents, Neighbors, Supporters said...
* the High Line should have a slow, quiet, and contemplative character
* activities should include walking, loafing, meditating, and strolling – SLOW
* the High Line should respect the landscape and wild aesthetic that currently exists
* preserve what’s there now, where not possible, respect the spirit of the High Line
* keep it passive and natural, maintain the wildness, more horticulture, less architecture
* avoid commercialism - no billboards, no advertising
* no forced entertainment, it is not a street or a mall
* the High Line’s history and original use should be an integral part of the design
* build upon the railroad theme and keep it a connector
* preservation should be the primary goal, including ‘found’ art and graffiti
* history of railroad should be respected - keep the rails, add interpretive signage, historical markers
