Working with Persons

Displaying persons

The Person List screen displays the following fields for each person:
Person TypeCode letter for Person Type (E for Employee, S for Student, O for Other, X for gone from MIT)
First NamePerson's first name
Last NamePerson's last name
Kerberos NamePerson's Kerberos principal within the athena.mit.edu realm. (Note that the Roles Database only stores records for MIT people who have a Kerberos name in the athena.mit.edu realm.)

To display more fields, select a Person and click the Detail button, or double-click on a Person.
Result: The "Person Detail" screen appears with the following additional fields:

MIT IDThe person's 9-digit MIT ID number.
Email AddrThe person's email address as recorded in either Personnel, Registrar or Moira (Athena) records.
Org UnitThe person's department name, if known.
Primary Person TypeThe spelled-out person type, e.g., EMPLOYEE, STUDENT, OTHER

As in the "Authorization List" and "Function List" screens, you can select more than one line at a time using Ctl-click (Windows) or Command-click (Macintosh).

As of this writing, the following Selection Sets are available for the Person List screen:

People by Kerberos name
When you specify a Kerberos name (or the first part of one) and optionally a person type (E, S, or O), a list of people with Kerberos names matching these criteria, sorted by Kerberos name appears.

People by E-mail address
Specify an email address (or the first part of one) and optionally a person type (E, S, or O) to see a list of people -- sorted by Kerberos name-- whose email address match these criteria.

People by MIT ID
Specify an MIT ID number to display athe person (if any) matching this MIT ID number.

People by last name
Specify a last name (or the first part of one) and optionally a person type (E, S, or O) to see a list of people --sorted by last name--matching these criteria.

People who have authorizations
Lists people who have one or more authorizations in the Roles Database. As an option, you canselect only people who have authorizations within a given function category, or only people whose last names starts with a specified letter or string of letters.

People who have modified authorizations
Lists people who have created or modified at least one authorizations. You can also limit the display to people whose last names begin with a specified letter or string of letters.

People who have modified functions
Lists people who have created or modified at least one function. Optionally, you can limit the display to people whose last names begin with a specified letter or string of letters.
