Comments:
The Dongguan IGCC power plant is a new construction 800 MW (750 MW net) coal fired power plant with pre-combustion capture. 1 MT/Yr CO2 capture is expectedand the CO2 will be trasnported 101-150 KM to offshore depleted oil and/or gas reservoirs for CO2-EOR. The plant is expected to be operational for 20 years.
The project is regarded as one of the measurements to implement the Reform and Development Plan for the Pearl River Delta, which is endorsed by the State Council. During 2005 to 2010, the Dongguan project received financial support for IGCC R&D from the government's High Technology Development Program.
The IGCC technology will be provided by KBR and Southern Company of the US, who signed a licensing deal with the Chinese firm in 2009.
