Welcome to Guinness' Doghouse!

a portrait of Guinness

Well hello and sniff-sniff to you! I'm Guinness the dog of Joe and Shannon . I used to be considered a mutt, but Mom just found out I'm almost certainly an ENGLISH SHEPHERD, a true American dog. That would sure explain my need to keep everybody in one place all of the time; I just like herding.

If you's like to see a whole bunch of English Shepherds of all sizes and colors, take a look at the pictures from our 2002 New England English Shepherd gathering. We are a diverse, and very cute, bunch.

Somebody told me once that they really like my site because it's friendly to kids. Let me just say for the record that I think kids are GREAT! What 's not to love about kids? Let's face it, when a kid meets a cute dog like me, the first words out of the mouth are "Can I pet him?" usually followed by "Can I feed him?" Attention and treats - how can you go wrong with an attitude like that? Plus, the younger ones usually have sticky stuff on their faces - yum! If you're a kid, you can go to my special kids page. Remember, no adults allowed, I'll just bark at them.

Hey look! I got an award from a really neat mutt with a really neat name. If you click on the award, you can see his site.

Wowee! Another award! If you click on it, you can see Sandy and Jake's page

I was named after Guinness Stout. Having tried some of the foam, I must admit pride in this nomenclature. It's good stuff! Mom and Dad say it's because I'm strong and sweet and black and tan. They're so right.

Every dog must have at least one nickname. I have been known to go by these:

Guinea Pig
Snowdog
Junior Bloodhound
Imp
and The Cutest Dog in the World.

Joe and Shannon adopted me from the Animal Rescue League of Boston on November 12 of 1997. The ARL is a fine hosteling institution for wayward dogs like myself. You may read my adoption story, if you like. I liked my home there very much, but I was thrilled to have a new one. Perhaps you'd consider adopting a homeless pup?

Nowadays, I live in comfort and security at my den in East Cambridge. I get two squares a day (I used to get three, but then Mom and Dad figured out I was taking them for a ride). I have my own "special place" where I can sleep during the day when I'm alone. I have my own bed upstairs in the bedrooom. I get four nice walks a day, and spend at least 20 minutes each day training my Mom to give me treats. I have many, many friends because I am a very social dog. I make sure to greet every dog that we meet on our walks, because they're all friends that I just haven't met yet. Sometimes Mom and Dad take me to a dog park, and I get to meet all KINDS of interesting dogs. I also have my very own human puppy to take care of. You can see him on his own page.
