About usThe Innovation Centre operates under the Singapore MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) and is funded by the National Research Foundation (NRF). Its programs and grants are available to all Institutes of Higher Learning in Singapore (eg. NUS, NTU, SIM, SMU, SUTD, SMART Centre, Polytechnics, etc). Similar to the highly successful Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation at MIT, the SMART Innovation Centre identifies and nurtures a broad range of emerging technologies including but not limited to biotechnology, biomedical devices, information technology, new materials, tiny tech, and energy innovations and will act as a catalyst to create a fertile environment for faculty and student entrepreneurship to grow; accelerate product development from the laboratory to the marketplace; increase connectivity between the Singapore and international entrepreneurial communities (including MIT Cambridge) to build global venture investment opportunities; and to provide entrepreneurial learning and mentoring initiatives. MissionOur mission is to nurture scientists and engineers so that their innovations can be accelerated to commercialization. ProgramsA whitepaper entitled “Implementation of the Deshpande Center in the Singapore Ecosystem: A preliminary roadmap for the SMART Innovation Centre” defines the mission, goals and programs initiated by the Centre. |
