Gordon took me out side the ballroom, where we sat on the floor and
talked.
"I don't get it," I said. "I mean, I knew that David and Wendy were on and off for a long time, but she swore to me that nothing bad would happen tonight. Now, there they are, making googly eyes at each other, and then she just leaves me out there. She swore that nothing like this would happen tonight..." "Just go out with David's date." "Oh, funny. I haven't even seen Amy tonight." "In a way I guess I know how David must feel," Gordon said. He saw I was starting to get angry so he quickly added, "No, I mean, listen to what's happening to me out there. There I am, dancing with Karen and having a wonderful time--I mean, you've seen us--and suddenly all I can think about is Cheryl--oh, she was my first real girlfriend from, like, two years ago or so. It's like having such a good time with Karen is reminding me what it was like with Cheryl. It's like she's haunting me or something." "I don't think David's date is exciting him that much." "That's not what I meant. I think I just wanted to let that off my chest or something." I don't think I really needed to hear him complain when his evening was going so well. I saw him in there with Karen, getting very, shall we say, friendly. I needed to go back inside and find Wendy. | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
